Review of Post Mortem Invictus Album by Luci Ferrum

Luci Ferrum recently reached out to Gothic Bite Magazine to review her work. The following is our full review of the tracks she shared with us.

“Across the EP, themes move through emotional deadlock (“Push and Pull”), inherited trauma (“Cycle Breaker”), and mental self-mutilation demanded by others (“Custom Made”). Sonically, the record blends industrial grit, trip-hop intimacy, and cinematic tension, supported by tightly disciplined vocal performances.” — Luci Ferrum

This is written and reviewed by song with my opinion at the end of the review. Onto the review!

Funny Guy from the Post Mortem Invictus album by Luci Ferrum

Funny Guy: This is a quick song with fast beats and a pleasant rhythm to dance to if you’d like to, and has a message on dating or love of sorts, courting, and death with a good pacing. The singer’s voice is quick and clean, and she radiates a good sinister humor to it. A techno type beat over, and over that I actually enjoy in a dark humor of sorts.

Hope For The Rope: This is a song I really enjoyed on this album with a slower beat. It has a piano element and a jazz-like type feel to it, too, and it has good drums in slow beats. And the song slowly draws the seduction of music from the singer and her enchanting mantra in the chorus. The message is darker and outstanding, suggesting much darker tones.

Push and Pull: Slow mechanical beat and the singer’s voice is in beat with the song in a darker romance type tone, and the piano is just exceptional. There are some remnants of NIN’s The Fragiles sound with subtle hints of tragedy. This is probably my favorite song on the EP. And it’s soothing to me.

Custom Made: An industrial militant song and fast beat that keeps a faster pace, and it’s catchy. It feels like it should be in a sci-fi movie. The singer’s voice is rhythmic throughout the song and in a demanding tone. In a self saying, “this is who I am.”

Cycle Breaker: Whispers at the beginning of the song, and such anger. There is blast drumming, and the singer’s voice is in chants at a fast pace with a running cool theme. I love the chanting in this song, with the drums consistently going in like a family tragedy.

The number of songs was enjoyable to listen to in their entirety on the EP. I like EPs preferably to full albums. I definitely recommend this band’s music, and give it a listen. You might have a few favourites.

It’s an enjoyable album. Throughout the review it reminded me of the 90s and 00s goth albums from artists I like such as: 69 Eyes with hints of Zeromancer and a few other bands.

This has been an enjoyable album review, and I look forward to their future releases to review again soon.
