Another Kind of Halloween: When Folklore Meets the Paranormal

Explore the darker origins of Halloween through true tales of the paranormal. From Peter Stumpp, the real “werewolf” of Bedburg, to misunderstood witches, zombie science, and a chilling vampire story from Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, this article dives into the eerie truths behind folklore, myth, and the mysteries that still haunt us today.

The paranormal has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, the idea that death might not be the end, that life could twist into another form on a spectral plane, kept me wide-eyed under the covers.

The thought that the full moon could awaken something wild inside us, that creatures of the night might truly walk among us, always gave me that familiar chill I never wanted to end.

The Forest That Shouldn’t Be: A Paranormal Beacon in Transylvania

Deep in the heart of Romania, on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca, lies a forest so enigmatic, so unnerving, that it has been dubbed “The Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania.” The Hoia-Baciu Forest is not just Romania’s most haunted forest—it is a global landmark in paranormal history, occult phenomena, and gothic folklore. With roots reaching as far back as 6500 BC, this eerily beautiful woodland predates recorded Romanian civilization and remains shrouded in mystery.

The Montréal Canadiens, established in 1909, boast a storied history spanning over a century. Some believe that the sheer volume of emotions and experiences has imprinted spiritual echoes within these hallowed halls, giving rise to tales of hauntings and paranormal activity.

While specific accounts from players regarding paranormal experiences at the Bell Centre are scarce, the lore of the team’s former home, the Montréal Forum, is rich with such stories. What Is The Most Haunted Place in New Zealand?

New Zealand is a country on Earth that is sometimes missing on our world maps and is home to the Hobbits. But they are wonderful people with much history to offer. Lucky us, we have our own kiwi, Paula, to talk to us about NZ’s most haunted place!

What Is It About New Zealand?

Growing up in New Zealand, a small country, many things started happening civilisation-wise in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We have a different history than other countries around the world.

In saying that, though, we have a few exciting spots around New Zealand worth visiting, including the former Seacliff Lunatic Asylum, considered the most haunted place in New Zealand.

Exorcism — Demon

The Real Story Behind Regan MacNeill From The Exorcist

We all know that actual events often inspire many movies and stories. What ‘true events’ and ‘real life events’ mean is left to the one telling the story. So, who inspired the most horrifying movie of all time, The Exorcist?

The Horror Is Sometimes Real In Movies

Lately, it has been on my mind just how many movies, TV shows, and other pop culture references are based on events that happened in reality. Especially when it comes to horror and mystery movies.

I have touched on films and the stories behind movies like Scream, Annabelle, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and even The Exorcist was based on a true story.

OHIO REFORMATORY

The Hunting Legacy Of The Ohio Reformatory

There are haunted places all around the world. Despite North America’s youth, it’s not shy of its fair share of hauntings. Dora talks to us about the Ohio Reformatory.

The Overall Ohio Reformatory

In the heart of Mansfield, Ohio, stands a structure whose towering tips and Gothic architecture cast an eerie shadow over its surroundings. The Ohio Reformatory.

While the prison’s menacing pretense could rival any European castle, the unsettling tales from within its walls have solidified its place in the annals of America’s most haunted destinations.

Remember 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville Horror?

Many houses rhyme with horror, but one in particular comes to mind, and we can even see the two croissant windows. Paula talks to us about the history of pop culture in Amityville.

The Address We Can’t Forget

This address has been popularized in movie culture since 1979. Countless movies have been filmed about the incident, and books have been written about its story. This is one address that all crime fans will remember for eternity. It’s similar to how everyone connects to 221B Baker Street with Sherlock Holmes.

I have seen a few movies based on the Amityville incident but did not realize how many films had been released around the fateful night of November 13th, 1974.

What Is The Legacy Of Ed And Lorraine Warren?

We all know the names of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Not just because of The Conjuring franchise but also through the paranormal field. After their passing, what is their legacy?

Who Are The Warrens?

Although the paranormal research couple have passed on, Ed and Lorraine Warren are still one of America’s most valued experts on demonology and spirits. It’s not just those interested in the occult world that have turned towards the Warrens for help, but also religious authorities.

In 1952 Ed and Lorraine Warren founded the New England Society of Paranormal Research. Ed was a trained demonologist, Lorraine was a trance medium, and together they were the paranormal research couple.

The Most Brutal Witch Trials Were In Scotland

The Witch trials happened all around Europe and not just in North America. In fact, there was a place worse than Salem, and its name was North Berwick in Scotland.

When Witchcraft Had No More Place

On Halloween night in 1590, the East Lothian people suffered the accusation of witchcraft. It occurred in St. Andrew’s Auld Kirk in North Berwick.

The Witch Trials lasted for two long years, and over seventy victims underwent the consequences of high treason. The accusations knew no boundaries as the 5th Earl of Bothwell also received the charges.

The Eastern State Penitentiary, A Monument Of Failures

From all the haunted places we come across, some of them remind us that our past isn’t as spotless as we wished. Sometimes, we must remind ourselves where we come from to avoid repeating those mistakes. The Eastern State Penitentiary in the USA is one of them.

A Pioneer Of Its Time And A Little Dark

Eastern State Penitentiary, widely recognized as the pioneering institution in the realm of penal systems, was designed to evoke remorse from its incarcerated individuals, thereby allowing them to deeply reflect upon the misdeeds that resulted in their confinement.

Considered one of the most haunted sites in the US, Eastern State was not known for its ability to rehabilitate its prisoners.

13 Years Ago Monster High Taught Goths To Stand Up For Themselves

In 2010, when Monster High debuted on store shelves, nobody knew little goths would emerge from their coffins. 13 years later, goths have a bone to pick!

Fangtastic Goth Collecting Story

I am an obsessive collector of many things: True Blood, Hotel Transylvania The Series, Vlad the Impaler books, and Monster High. You know, goth things! When I was young, the only one I could relate to was Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family until I could read and discover Frankenstein.

The thing is, I was born in 1985, and so Monster High came into my life when I was twenty-five. I fell in love with Frankie Stein! I know the OCD Vampire doesn’t place Draculaura first. What gives? But Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is unique, and Frankie Stein is so adorable!
