The Return of Gothic Bite Magazine: Rising from Depression and Digital Decay

It’s been far too long since I’ve written for my own creation, Gothic Bite Magazine. Once alive with daily articles, passionate writers, and a thriving gothic community, GBM was my dream made real.

But like many creators, I fell victim to burnout, depression, and the changing tides of social media. What was once a beacon for gothic souls became silent. This is the story of how I lost my way—and how I’m reclaiming the shadows to bring Gothic Bite Magazine back to life.

Paraphilia - Sexuality

Algolagnia And The Sexual Sadism Paraphilic Disorder Is More Than Just A Fantasy

Paraphilias are often tossed aside with judgmental looks and have people cringe if they do not look disgusted. However, how much do you know about paraphilias and sexual sadism disorder?

The Overall View Of Sexual Sadism Disorder

Sexual sadism is one of many paraphilias in the darker and obscure spectrum of the field. It can create distress in the one living with the paraphilia or the partner. It often interferes with one’s daily life and routine. Sexual sadism can sadly lead to non-consensual harm or pain.

The disorder causes the person living with it to feel arousal through the media of intense involuntary pain. However, it isn’t them who are going through the suffering; it is someone else. It has to be through physical abuse, suffering or humiliation. In other words, they achieve orgasm through the suffering of others.

PARAPHILIA - SEXUALITY

Do You Have Paraphilias, And Don’t Know It?

The word paraphilia has quite a history in itself. A lot of people associate it with dark and murderous sexual behaviours. However, paraphilias are much more complex than that. Let’s dive into the complexity of the word!

The Overall Generalization Of Paraphilias

People automatically associate paraphilias with sexual depravity, often leading to criminal acts. However, that isn’t the case, and more precisely, one is not exclusive to the other. We owe this misconception to centuries of shaming sexuality, religion, and close-minded doctors and pharmacists.

We are aware that medical procedures have to start somewhere and that it is understandable mistakes would occur. Like many other fields, medicine depends on learning and experimenting. However, some of the worst horror stories of learning come from psychiatry.

Daemonophobia Is The Fear Of Living With Demons

There are many phobias in the world that we know are irrational. All fears are irrational but have roots in either instinct or trauma. So, what is daemonophobia?

TRIGGER WARNING: PTSD | Anxiety | Phobia | Daemonophobia | Mental Illness | Mental Disorder | Paranoia | Medical Terms

The Overall Fear Called Daemonophobia

Daemonophobia is an overwhelming fear that otherworldly beings, primarily demons, can take over their mind and body. The fear is persistent and can, in some cases, be paralyzing. It targets people who believe supernatural or paranormal beings roam freely in the world and can possess a human.

For this article, I will refer to supernatural and paranormal beings as demons, specifically from the Roman Catholic belief. That doesn’t mean that the phobia is only present in people who are of the Roman Catholic belief. However, my knowledge of demons is more significant within these parameters.

The Odaxelagnia Paraphilia Complex

Many kinks are now part of our daily lives as they make their way into our phones or while browsing. With the inclusion of so many types of romance novels, among other entertainment, one caught my attention, odaxelagnia. Let’s dive in!

The Quick Overall View Of Odaxelagnia

The simplest way to put it, odaxelagnia ranges itself in the paraphilia family. Odaxelagnia is, at its core, achieving orgasmic or sexual arousal through biting your partner or the other way around.

Some researchers consider odaxelagnia to be sadomasochism at a mild level. Often the bites resemble nibbling, which is quite similar to many mammals in the wild when performing sexual intercourse.

Dopamine and Serotonin: How We Function On A Fundamental Level

Mental illnesses or disorders are often pushed aside in society or not believed in at all. People have difficulty feeling compassion for the pain they don’t see. So here is an explanation of dopamine and serotonin.

A Daily Cycle Of Madness

Dopamine, serotonin, and all the chemicals that control bodily functions are a daily cycle and follow a circadian rhythm. We have a natural rising and lowering of our chemicals throughout the day. These chemicals are responsible for our sleep/wake system. Serotonin helps the pineal gland create melatonin from melanin to help us naturally fall asleep.

Dopamine suppresses norepinephrine, which allows us to fall asleep. However, serotonin also promotes wakefulness through the production of norepinephrine. Any imbalance between the two will cause sleeping issues.

Medieval — Plague Doctor

The Dancing Plague Of The Middle Ages

We all heard of the Bubonic Plague, Black Plague, the Plague, or the Black Death, all synonyms for the same illness that killed a third of the world’s population. But do you know about the Dancing Plague?

But First, The Black Plague!

Europe in the Middle Ages suffered from many illnesses and diseases as they developed in various societies. The popularity of trading ports expanded the horizons of kingdoms but also had them face new pathogens, bacteria and germs their lives did not accustom them to.

Nothing prepared their immune system for the possibility of contagion. Their limited knowledge of medicine also led them to die in great numbers. The Church spread it was either God punishing them for their sinful ways or Satan spreading its diseases. Either way, the morale was down.

Who Knew Cinderella Was A Princess And A Complex

When writing an article about a child martyr from my home province, a link came up titled Cinderella Complex, which I had never heard of before. I looked into it, and it opened my eyes on me.

My Love For Cinderella Grew Bigger

I never hid who I was or what I had from readers or fellow artists and authors alike. I’m a gothicist and medievalist-enthusiast. I’m a professional artist and author, but with something much darker inside me.

I am a misanthrope, introverted, antisocial and an awkward person. To put it lightly, I have many mental disorders that make me socially handicapped. I have clinical OCD, PTSD, social anxiety disorder, cibophobia, agoraphobia, scopophobia, and body dysmorphia

Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy Is Much More Than Howling At The Moon

We know the word werewolf, but the technical term is lycanthrope, and the accurate clinical term is lycanthropy. But what does that mean?

What Is Lycanthropy, And Where Did It Come From

The delusion that someone must metamorphose into an animal or be one is a psychiatric syndrome. The scientific community calls it Clinical Lycanthropy

The term itself leads to the affliction of physically morphing into a wolf. Of course, it is impossible and linked to the paranormal phenomenon that is a werewolf. However, it is, to this day, still a disorder despite its rarity.

The Tudors - Showtime - 2007-2010

We All Know Henry VIII, But What Did The Tudors Series Teach Us?

Henry VIII had six wives, and his reputation for disposing of them is no secret, but when it comes to highlighting the days of his reign, one series comes to mind, The Tudors. Were they accurate?

The Official Summary Of The Tudors Series

The Showtime drama focuses on the early years of King Henry VIII‘s nearly 40-year reign, 1509-1547, of England. The series looks at Henry’s famous female companions like Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

And delves into his relationships with important figures like Sir Thomas More, Cardinal Wosely—head of the Catholic Church of England during its break with Rome—and Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, who was Henry’s best friend and unofficial adviser.

The Vampire Disease From The Dark Ages To Today

The Vampire Disease. Many people heard of it but do people really know what it is? Or what it means to the people who live with it? I have the illness at a mild level. Here’s how it goes!

Beware, Vampires Are Out Of The Coffin! Really, Read The Warning!

This article contains graphic descriptions of the medical condition widely spread as ‘Vampire Disease’ and its symptoms. The following article is an in-depth dive into the illness and what it implies, and what it is like for people like me to live with this condition.

If you are sensitive to medical tools, treatment, and physical descriptions of diseases, I recommend skipping this article. Because the illness can relate to mental disorders, I also recommend ensuring all readers are comfortable with the nervous system and brain illnesses.

Cotard’s Syndrome Is The Living Dead

We don’t understand or have discovered many things about the human brain yet. We don’t know how powerful it can be. One delusion remains a mystery, Cotard’s Syndrome.

Ask A Mortician She’ll Answer

Tonight, when going to bed, my husband and I turned on the television and YouTube. We watched our regular channels, including Ask A Mortician, hosted by Caitlin Doughty. She talked about a real and fascinating brain disorder, Cotard’s Syndrome. So, are you human, vampire or the walking dead?

Caitlin Doughty has a unique way of explaining a complicated subject and turning it into a simplistic way of understanding. I love how she expresses herself and uses her humor to take something morbid and make it relatable. For that reason, I had to know more.
