Reel Horror – The True Story Behind Ghostface

Hello and welcome to Reel Horror, where we discuss the real-world inspirations behind horror films. From true crime to paranormal happenings to mysterious, unexplained, or just plain strange phenomena, horror often finds its roots in its surroundings, and this new series is devoted to exploring where some of the most iconic films and villains find their origins.

Today, we’ll be looking at the inspiration behind Ghostface and the Scream franchise: Danny Rolling, also known as the Gainesville Ripper. Rolling was an American serial killer from Shreveport, Louisiana, who killed 5 college students in Gainesville, FL over four days in 1990.

The Origin Of Friday The 13th And Its History

We know Friday the 13th and its famous killer, Jason Voorhees, but where did the reputation of Friday the 13th really start, and where does it come from?

The creepy reputation of Friday the 13th is an actual mash-up of two older superstitions that developed separately and eventually merged. Neither started out connected, but once they combined, the date became a cultural magnet for bad luck stories.

The Wharram Percy “Revenant” Burials

Vampire burials are found across Europe and raise many questions as to how people in the medieval age viewed death and its connection to life. It wasn’t enough to be dead because it wasn’t the end; after all, you could return as a revenant or worse…as a vampire.

What Does The Wharram Percy Burial Mean

This vampire burial is one of the most fascinating and disturbing medieval discoveries in Britain to date. The site at Wharram Percy revealed strong archaeological evidence that medieval villagers believed that some of the dead could rise from their graves as vampires, basically, undead corpses that physically returned to harm the living.

The villagers took extreme steps to stop it.

The Tragedy of Brandon Teena

The darkest history has to offer sometimes isn’t in war but in neighbours or people that share the same town. So, what truly happened behind the movie Boys Don’t Cry? Let NZGeekChic tell you the story.

The Medieval Vampire Burial In Bulgaria

Let’s talk about the so-called “vampire burials” found in 2004 in Bulgaria. Let’s talk about their real archeological finds, and not internet creepypasta.

What Happened In The 00s In Bulgaria?

It was in 2004 that archeologists uncovered medieval skeletons in Sozopol, a coastal town on the Black Sea. The corpses dated roughly to the 13th-14th century.

But why does it matter so much, and why is it called a “vampire burial”? Well, for once, the skeletons had iron rods driven through their chests.

Another Kind of Halloween: When Folklore Meets the Paranormal

Explore the darker origins of Halloween through true tales of the paranormal. From Peter Stumpp, the real “werewolf” of Bedburg, to misunderstood witches, zombie science, and a chilling vampire story from Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, this article dives into the eerie truths behind folklore, myth, and the mysteries that still haunt us today.

The paranormal has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, the idea that death might not be the end, that life could twist into another form on a spectral plane, kept me wide-eyed under the covers.

The thought that the full moon could awaken something wild inside us, that creatures of the night might truly walk among us, always gave me that familiar chill I never wanted to end.

Of Darkness and Other Familiaries: Part 2

In passing years among those times, I found that rock stars like Evanescence took on a new form of Goth Nu Metal rose, especially with Slipknot, which I actually like, The Subliminal Versus the most and wasn’t big on Iowa, but their debut album was insane. I found their bands along the way, and I went through an extreme black metal obsession. Among these bands, I found Cradle of Filth.

Will You Dance With My Poor Su Lynn?

Alright, Biters, I have a rather unique entry for you this time. At The Bite, we have a diverse team of professional writers, including members who can ghostwrite, published independent book authors, and legitimate journalists.

On the other hand, I am, I suppose, more what you would call a muse. That being said, Biters, I’ve been tasked with giving a glimpse into my thought process in creating one of my characters, that of Su Lynn.

Gaming late at night is one of my many hobbies, predominantly online multiplayer RPGs. With these games, as I’m sure you know, come loot boxes and microtransactions; from one of these blatant cash grabs was the humble start of my character, Su Lynn.

All Based On Five Nights At Freddy’s Review

Biters FNAF is coming to GBM…well, sort of…You see, I was thinking of doing a three-way battle royal between the Five Nights film, Willy’s Wonderland, and the Banana Splits Movie, as they all seem to stem from the same base: the Five Nights game franchise.

However, while I enjoyed all three films, one was far better than the others at being a FNAF movie, and shockingly, it wasn’t Freddy Fazbear.

Taking the bronze is The Banana Splits. The popularity of the Indie horror game Five Nights At Freddy’s made a movie seem like a logical next step, but as I recall, it seemed like studios were having trouble getting it off the ground.

Into the Heart of Darkness: The Haunting Mystery of Romania’s Hoia-Baciu Forest

Subtitle: Where Time Stands Still, and Shadows Whisper the Truth

The Forest That Shouldn’t Be: A Paranormal Beacon in Transylvania

Deep in the heart of Romania, on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca, lies a forest so enigmatic, so unnerving, that it has been dubbed “The Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania.” The Hoia-Baciu Forest is not just Romania’s most haunted forest—it is a global landmark in paranormal history, occult phenomena, and gothic folklore. With roots reaching as far back as 6500 BC, this eerily beautiful woodland predates recorded Romanian civilization and remains shrouded in mystery.

Rapunzel Is Letting Down Her Hair: A Gothic Fairy Tale Diary About Love, Mental Health, and Moving to Romania Entry One

A broken-hearted artist with OCD, anxiety, and a Rapunzel complex is moving to Romania to follow a dream rooted in Vlad the Impaler, Gothic history, and a man named Samuel. This is her diary.

When a Thirteen-Year-Old Fell in Love with Vlad the Impaler

When I was thirteen years old, my history teacher handed us five countries to explore. The class chose Romania — mostly out of fascination with Dracula.

But not me.

My teacher, an unsung hero in my story, taught us the truth. Vlad Țepeș. Vlad the Impaler. Vlad Drăculea — the real-life ruler of Wallachia. The terrifying protector of his land and people. A man written in blood and immortalized by fear.

Buried Alive: The Gothic Horror of Immurement in Medieval Times

In the shadowed corridors of medieval castles and the crumbling walls of forgotten abbeys, the silent screams of the forsaken linger. Immurement—the act of sealing a person within a wall, crypt, or underground chamber—was one of the most horrifying fates to befall the condemned.

A living tomb, a slow descent into madness, and a fate worse than death itself. It was not simply an execution; it was the ultimate abandonment, a punishment that blurred the line between justice and sheer cruelty.

The True Horror of Snow White: A Gothic Tale of Betrayal and Bloodshed

Fairy tales, as we know them today, are often softened, sanitized versions of their grim past. Before Disney transformed them into magical adventures for children, these stories were cautionary tales—dark warnings about the dangers of vanity, betrayal, and death.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is no exception. The version we recognize today, filled with dwarfs, a poisoned apple, and a prince’s kiss, is a far cry from its gruesome origins, where murder, necrophilia, cannibalism, and violent revenge played central roles.

The Montréal Canadiens, established in 1909, boast a storied history spanning over a century. Some believe that the sheer volume of emotions and experiences has imprinted spiritual echoes within these hallowed halls, giving rise to tales of hauntings and paranormal activity.

While specific accounts from players regarding paranormal experiences at the Bell Centre are scarce, the lore of the team’s former home, the Montréal Forum, is rich with such stories. What Inspired A Stalker & Blocker? The Dark Side of Hockey & Obsession

Hockey is the fastest, hardest, most brutal team sport in the world. It’s a war on skates, played at speeds of 30 mph, with collisions that rival car crashes.

It’s gloves dropped at center ice, fists flying, blood splattering onto the ice like a crime scene. It’s a place where men become legends, where enforcers die young, and where goaltenders stand alone in a battlefield of flying rubber and shattered bones.

And beneath the surface?

There’s a darker side of hockey. One the league doesn’t like to talk about.
