Cultism Isn’t Out There Or An X-File

Gothic Bite Magazine continues with the truth about the new age cults that can be found on social media. Recruiting members to join cults is easier than ever and Kasey helps to avoid them!

The New Age Cultism

Recently, there has been a rise in social media accounts claiming to be time travellers or ambassadors with unique spiritual connections that want you to follow them into enlightenment.

In my line of work, it has always been a calling for me to help those understand the mystical and mystery schools of thought regarding Wicca and Paganism or other spiritual ascension beliefs. I have spent most of my adult life guiding people on their journeys with texts and knowledge of what I have learned to help them through their spiritual awakening.

The September Equinox We Know As Mabon

Fall is many of us’ favourite seasons. We wait for the turning of colours, the temperatures lowering, the rain coming in, the smell of the earth swirling in the wind mixed with hot beverages and comforting perfumes of cinnamon and cloves. So, why not celebrate Mabon, too?

The Wheel Of The Year Stops On Mabon

The Wheel of the Year is a holiday calendar quite precious to us Witches who practice Nature celebrations. Many of us know Samhain due to many movies and Yuletide going through a revival with the Frozen franchise and Krampus.

But if we go in order and remain with the big eight celebrations it starts with the Winter Solstice called Yuletide, then Imbolc, followed by the Spring Equinox called Ostara.

Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Who Is This Bloody Mary?

As a child, we all played that little scary game of going in the bathroom with one candle in front of the mirror to say her name three times. Many legends arose about who she was, but who is she?

Do You Remember The Game From Your Childhood?

Bloody Mary is one of the classic spooky games that requires nothing to play except a bathroom. The goal of the game remained the same. Players must try to summon the ghost of Bloody Mary with a lit candle by looking in a bathroom mirror.

The player stares at their reflection while reciting the name Bloody Mary three times. Some other variation says to do it five times. The player is often a volunteer, but if none speaks up, it is often decided by drawing straws, and who has the shortest straw goes in the bathroom.

The Reality Of Spiritual Cults In The 21st Century

Gothic Bite Magazine is not a place for religion. However, if we see people pulled in wrongful places we want to speak up. Cults are surfacing and using Gothic terminology and demonology. So what is a cult?

Let’s Talk About The Overall Dressing

The New Age Spiritualist movement has been a catalyst in the lives of society ever since Wicca became a broad spectrum in the 1960s. Earlier derived as Witchcraft by Gardner in the 1940s and 1950s.

Many societies and groups of people have been seeking enlightenment established within the last hundred years, including those seekers and societies that stem back to the Freemasons, the Templars, and the Illuminati.

The Contradictions Of Increase Mather in The Salem Witch Trials

It is the Fall season, and here at Gothic Bite Magazine, we celebrate the Witch Age early for our Fall season, from September 1st to November 30th. So, let’s start this Witch Age Season with Increase Mather, an enemy of Witches!

Puritans Leading To The Salem Witch Trials

We all know about the Salem Witch trials of 1692. The darkest and most horrifying Witch trial in North America. It is also one of the darkest pages in the history of the United States of America.

In the State of Massachusetts, Salem was a more considerable territory and differently shaped and Puritans populated the village. But what do we know about Puritans? The term isn’t often used or is linked to the thought of pilgrims and the first colonies of what would become the United States.

They're Watching — 2016

They’re Watching A Review About A Witch’s Cottage

There are many mainstream horror movies out there made to reach out to as many people as possible. But there are little indie movie gems that often pass under the radar. They’re Watching from 2016 is one of them.

Let’s Get Outside The USA For A Movie

While They’re Watching takes place outside the United States, it is an English movie. What does this mean? They removed us from a ‘movie comfort zone’ and explored new horizons. They’re Watching might not be a huge horror movie, but it has a powerful story.

They don’t make all independent movies on a tiny budget or cheaply with horrible actors. Independent movies are often very resourceful and rely on craftsmanship. They’re Watching is a smaller movie with meat around the bones and an exciting story.

The Elusive Axeman of New Orleans And His Victims

New Orleans is a unique ground for the paranormal and mysteries. This figure might not be paranormal but inflicted much terror in their time. Here is the story of the never found Axeman of New Orleans.

The Rising Terror Of The Axeman

When we think of serial killers that got away, those who come to mind are often Jack the Ripper and the Zodiac Killer. These people escaped justice in the dark of the night, committing murders and keeping their towns on the edge of their seats as they eluded police and inflicted pain while terrorising their neighbourhoods.

It started in May of 1918 in New Orleans before his reign of terror ended in October 1919. A lesser-known serial killer, later named The Axeman of New Orleans, was clever enough to get away with murder as he eluded the authorities to this day. He became one of New Orleans’ unsolved mysteries.

Midsommar The Real Festivity And Not The Horror Movie

Midsommar is more than a horror movie taking place in Sweden but is a pagan practice going back centuries and is practised to this day, gaining popularity every year.

The Summer Solstice

June twenty-first is the cross-quarter day of the Summer Solstice, or as some call it, Midsummer and Litha. It is the longest day of light in the year, with the shortest night of darkness as the northern pole of the Earth tips toward the sun. It marks the first day of summer astrologically and the midpoint of summer beginning in spring.

The growing season is in full bloom as farmers tend to their summer crops. The Solar God and Goddess are sprinkling their blessings of fertility all across the land. The first day of Summer coincides with the sign of Cancer.

The Odaxelagnia Paraphilia Complex

Many kinks are now part of our daily lives as they make their way into our phones or while browsing. With the inclusion of so many types of romance novels, among other entertainment, one caught my attention, odaxelagnia. Let’s dive in!

The Quick Overall View Of Odaxelagnia

The simplest way to put it, odaxelagnia ranges itself in the paraphilia family. Odaxelagnia is, at its core, achieving orgasmic or sexual arousal through biting your partner or the other way around.

Some researchers consider odaxelagnia to be sadomasochism at a mild level. Often the bites resemble nibbling, which is quite similar to many mammals in the wild when performing sexual intercourse.

Come And Read About An Up-Coming Release From Gothic Band, Susurration!

I love the sound of the dark and disturbing. Gothic, pulsating beats that ignite my inner vampire. So, it was a really thrilling delight to be given the chance to review the EBM project, Susurration.

Behind The Name Susurration

The project Susurration, which I must add, has an interesting meaning behind the name of the musical project—Susurration means to whisper. It stands for aggressive, driving EBM beats and melancholic darkwave songs. They always integrate influences from classical music and theatre music.

The last album, ‘Make Love Like War,’ which came out in September 2022, was presented by Orkus and Sonic Seducer and received many discussions on many international scene blogs.

La Quintrala, A Chilean Drop Dead Gorgeous Beauty Killer

People don’t often think about women as serial killers, even less in aristocratic times. However, knowing it is a man’s world, only now do we discover women did more than first thought. How many women do YOU think got away with murder?

Only Men Can Be Serial Killers

When the general public hears the word ‘serial killer’ or a crime has been committed, more often than not, their minds will automatically go to seeing the criminal as a male.

That is often because eighty-five percent of serial killers are male, and only fifteen percent are female. Also, women don’t seem to be in it for publicity. However, regardless of gender, one is always motivated by a reason to kill. Then again, when it comes to women, the kills are more personal compared to men.

Dopamine and Serotonin: How We Function On A Fundamental Level

Mental illnesses or disorders are often pushed aside in society or not believed in at all. People have difficulty feeling compassion for the pain they don’t see. So here is an explanation of dopamine and serotonin.

A Daily Cycle Of Madness

Dopamine, serotonin, and all the chemicals that control bodily functions are a daily cycle and follow a circadian rhythm. We have a natural rising and lowering of our chemicals throughout the day. These chemicals are responsible for our sleep/wake system. Serotonin helps the pineal gland create melatonin from melanin to help us naturally fall asleep.

Dopamine suppresses norepinephrine, which allows us to fall asleep. However, serotonin also promotes wakefulness through the production of norepinephrine. Any imbalance between the two will cause sleeping issues.

Gothic Bite Magazine Interviews Their Writer, Ivy Wayne

At Gothic Bite Magazine we love welcoming new patients to become part of our asylum. We question them and learn about them. It doesn’t matter what creative field they are part of because they’re our patient now. This week, we welcome Ivy Wayne

Patient Name: Ivy Wayne

I’m Ivy Wayne, and I grew up in the publishing world and attended acting/art school. I grew up in a small northern French town in Québec, Canada. Determined to make it into the big leagues. I learned English independently. I had Stephen King, Oliver Bowden, Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Katie Aiken Ritter and Bernard Cornwell as my ‘literary teachers in writing.

Odd to most people, I became a bookworm and developed an antisocial personality disorder my whole life. I fought many stereotypes and misconceptions from the outside world her entire life. After all, horror is hard to defend to other parents when your daughter is only six-year-old.

Medieval — Plague Doctor

The Dancing Plague Of The Middle Ages

We all heard of the Bubonic Plague, Black Plague, the Plague, or the Black Death, all synonyms for the same illness that killed a third of the world’s population. But do you know about the Dancing Plague?

But First, The Black Plague!

Europe in the Middle Ages suffered from many illnesses and diseases as they developed in various societies. The popularity of trading ports expanded the horizons of kingdoms but also had them face new pathogens, bacteria and germs their lives did not accustom them to.

Nothing prepared their immune system for the possibility of contagion. Their limited knowledge of medicine also led them to die in great numbers. The Church spread it was either God punishing them for their sinful ways or Satan spreading its diseases. Either way, the morale was down.

The Last Kingdom Is A Gothic, Historical Story

Sometimes history hides heroes deep in the art and leaves a battlefield without a name. The Last Kingdom is about one of those men.

Where It Came From

The Last Kingdom is a gothic, historical story. But where to begin? History is an infinite source of ideas for authors.

It is becoming a series that has people glued to their small screens. Netflix didn’t waste time and jumped on Bernard Cornwell‘s work of The Saxon Stories and called it The Last Kingdom.

Who Knew Cinderella Was A Princess And A Complex

When writing an article about a child martyr from my home province, a link came up titled Cinderella Complex, which I had never heard of before. I looked into it, and it opened my eyes on me.

My Love For Cinderella Grew Bigger

I never hid who I was or what I had from readers or fellow artists and authors alike. I’m a gothicist and medievalist-enthusiast. I’m a professional artist and author, but with something much darker inside me.

I am a misanthrope, introverted, antisocial and an awkward person. To put it lightly, I have many mental disorders that make me socially handicapped. I have clinical OCD, PTSD, social anxiety disorder, cibophobia, agoraphobia, scopophobia, and body dysmorphia
