The Forest That Shouldn’t Be: A Paranormal Beacon in Transylvania

Deep in the heart of Romania, on the outskirts of Cluj-Napoca, lies a forest so enigmatic, so unnerving, that it has been dubbed “The Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania.” The Hoia-Baciu Forest is not just Romania’s most haunted forest—it is a global landmark in paranormal history, occult phenomena, and gothic folklore. With roots reaching as far back as 6500 BC, this eerily beautiful woodland predates recorded Romanian civilization and remains shrouded in mystery.

The True Horror of Snow White: A Gothic Tale of Betrayal and Bloodshed

Fairy tales, as we know them today, are often softened, sanitized versions of their grim past. Before Disney transformed them into magical adventures for children, these stories were cautionary tales—dark warnings about the dangers of vanity, betrayal, and death.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is no exception. The version we recognize today, filled with dwarfs, a poisoned apple, and a prince’s kiss, is a far cry from its gruesome origins, where murder, necrophilia, cannibalism, and violent revenge played central roles.

The Death Omen And Psychopomps Of The Sparrows

In mythologies and witchcraft, there are natural and wildlife signs attributed, and one of them is quite underrated: the sparrow.

The Signs Of The Sparrow

In various cultures worldwide, the sparrow has a significant meaning of symbolism. In Chinese, Japanese, Native American, Christian, Jewish, and many other cultures, the sparrow is seen as joyful and peaceful, bringing light-hearted messages.

Some cultures believe that sparrows carry the souls of the dead, so it’s bad luck to kill a sparrow. However, in some cultures, the sparrow is considered a death omen.

They’re Watching A Review About A Witch’s Cottage

There are many mainstream horror movies out there made to reach out to as many people as possible. But there are little indie movie gems that often pass under the radar. They’re Watching from 2016 is one of them.

Let’s Get Outside The USA For A Movie

While They’re Watching takes place outside the United States, it is an English movie. What does this mean? They removed us from a ‘movie comfort zone’ and explored new horizons. They’re Watching might not be a huge horror movie, but it has a powerful story.

They don’t make all independent movies on a tiny budget or cheaply with horrible actors. Independent movies are often very resourceful and rely on craftsmanship. They’re Watching is a smaller movie with meat around the bones and an exciting story.

Gothic Bite Magazine Interviews Their Writer, James Vaughan

At Gothic Bite Magazine, we love welcoming new patients to become part of our asylum. We question them and learn about them. It doesn’t matter what creative field they are part of because they’re our patients now. This week, we welcome James Vaughan.

Patient Name: James Vaughan

I’m James Vaughan, an occasional writer for GBM and a part-time custodian. I’m Taurus and enjoy long walks on the beach…Oops, sorry, wrong interview.

If that last line didn’t make it obvious, my key trait in the Ghoul Family is humour. I’m the comedic relief to the rest of our gang’s tragedy, showcase the theatre masks because I’d rather laugh now and cry later.

Is Cain The First Evil Of Earth Or A Self-Made Demon?

Some of us know the story of Cain and Abel, while others know the character better from the Netflix series Lucifer. What is fascinating about Cain’s character is his ambiguity regarding evil and demons.

The Origin Of Cain

From the Book of Genesis, Cain came as a biblical figure from ancient religions and made its place within King James’ Bible. Cain is Adam and Eve’s firstborn and so Abel’s older brother. We know Adam and Eve to be the first two humans created.

Cain was a farmer, and all his crops were offerings to the Lord. However, despite his dedication, the Lord wasn’t happy. To make matters worse, the Lord displayed his favouritism toward Abel. This display of affection angered Cain and made him quite jealous of his younger brother.

The Devil’s Landing On Earth

If you grew up Catholic, you must well know the story where Archangel Michael defeated the Devil, and he fell from Heaven. But, where exactly did he land? Satan created Hell following his fall. The answer might surprise you.

The Fall Of All Falls

As part of the Abrahamic religions, Satan or the Devil often uses seduction to induce a sinful response from humans. The Devil is part of almost all religions throughout history. But the one we are addressing comes from not only Catholicism and Christianity, but also Islam as well as Judaism. The Devil’s landing on Earth, is it real?

The Devil is a fallen angel, but when angelic one of the most precious ones to God. He was his favorite and most beautiful angel and ‘son’ at the time. Despite his rebellion against God when he refused to bow to Adam, the Devil lived.

Angels Above Demons Below

When asked what my favorite monster is, contrary to popular belief, it isn’t vampires, but demons.

Say A Prayer

Angels above Demons below is the common knowledge. Some of us like to be safe and be what society refers to as “normal.” I don’t. I am an individual looking for the strange, and I fit with weirdos.

Raised Christian, I went to the Church every Sunday and was part of the choir. I even took part in our church group to keep the company to elderly people without families. Moreover, I loved every minute of it.

The Blair Witch Is Back With A Vengeance

In 1999 a new genre of a horror movie made its entrance starting with The Blair Witch Project. Its prime marketing scheme selling it as a found footage inspired many movies ever since, and now it’s back.

*** minimal spoilers ***

Burkittsville Maryland Home of the Blair Witch

The Blair Witch is back with a vengeance but!

It is important to note that the town of Burkittsville in the American State of Maryland is real, but it is not where the movie happens when filmed. After the release of The Blair Witch Project in 1999, many fans harassed people from the village of 200 inhabitants to find the forest and more about the legend.

Death Is Not Evil

Okay. So I want to apologize to our subscribers. Not only have I not written an article in a while. Sorry, life happened! But also I’m about to go into a death-related rant. I apologize. On with the rant!

The Death Expert Is Back

Now, as our usual readers know, I am Gothic Bite Magazine‘s Death Expert, which means I write articles about death and whatnot. However, it has come to my attention that the media: television, movies, books, among other platforms, love to make anything related to death, evil.

And, as a Death Positivity Advocate, this irritates me. These platforms and services are why people in this part of the world, i.e., Western society, have death anxiety.

The Horrifying Definition of Monster

Monster is an imaginary creature that is very large, ugly, and frightening a monster with three heads prehistoric monsters. — Oxford Collocations Dictionary.

Monsters of History

The definition of the word monster is one we attribute to many subjects. Moreover, we can call a person a monster for their actions, responses, or appearance. Ultimately, a monster could be in the eyes of the beholder.

What each of us finds individually attractive doesn’t mean it pleases the masses. What was beautiful in the Renaissance might not be so today. However, have the word monster lose its meaning over time?

Folklore of Secrecy

This month dedicates itself to one Native American folklore often used but not well understood outside of the cultural belief. Someone capable of shifting to animal shapes and can haunt you to your last breath. It is with much carefulness that we present a terrifying legendary monster native of North America.

First of All

When I started writing, I promised myself that I would have Native Americans in each of my stories. Some may ask why, and this is my answer: I live in the French province of Quebec in Canada where many older people sharing the bloodline of Native Americans suffered shame from other cultures.

The Sandman An Underrated Creature Or Monster?

Mr. Sandman bring me a dream. Make him the cutest that I’ve ever seen. Give him to lips like roses and clover. Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over.

Mystical Origins

The origin of the character of the Sandman brings us to northern-western Europe; however, it is uncertain to exactly where it began. European folklore describes the Sandman as a man who sprinkles sand or dust on or in the eyes of children to have them fall asleep. In most versions, the Sandman only brings out good dreams.

Candy, chocolate, candles, romantic dinner and loving cards. We know of cupid and his love arrows… but did you know that we owe it all to a martyr?

Ghostly Origins Of Entities Remaining Behind

Death is something that either fascinates people or leaves them afraid. It is common to see the truth of a person on its death bed.

Ghosts & Spirits

It is also common to wonder if they’ll come back or go to heaven or the switch as merely turned off. Either way, ghosts are part of our history.

The idea of a spirit coming to back to haunt the living is not new to human history. Humankind believed in this theory since the beginning of ancient civilizations. It might be because we don’t know what goes beyond death or that our beliefs in it lack facts.

The Odd Origin of Vampires In History

Vampires are part of our folklore for hundreds of years. The belief that a being subsisting on blood timelessly fascinated us. But where did it come from? Let’s find the odd origin of vampires in history.

The Odd Origin

The odd origin of vampires in history, let’s dig in. In the early seventeenth hundreds, the process of decomposition remained something people did not know about.

The black plague or bubonic plague was now part of their past, but most corpses went through incineration, thus spreading diseases through the air, but that’s another topic. Those considered to be regular people had a coffin for their burial.

Interview with Macabre Artist from Finland Tero Porthan

He has a fascinating mind and eyes for the tasteful macabre. So, I asked if an interview with us would be something he considered. Here are his answers.
