Of darkness and other familiarities: Part 1 – A Personal Thought

This is the ever-expanding history of the goth subculture. From my perspective and experience as a 90s-era goth woman, I offer more insight. My stance is that I don’t think about music. Goth music shouldn’t be the primary focus anymore.

While it is essential, other aspects should also be considered, such as the history of the subculture and its inspiration, and more. In addition to this, music is essential, but each individual in the community must find their own way, create their own style, and adhere to what they love about the culture as well.

The goth subculture emerged among those outside England from the backdrop of the Punk scene at the time. Mainly surfacing around a club called the Batcave. The original goth bands were influenced by actual goth writers such as Edgar Allen Poe. These bands laid the foundation for what the community is today.

Blood Creek — 2009

Would Cancel Culture Cancel 2009 Blood Creek?

With all the movements of awareness in today’s United States in the film industry, it’s hard to be edgy. The horror genre is often either overlooked or over-judged by people that aren’t horror fans, to begin with. So, my review of the movie Blood Creek, fourteen years later…

The Official Summary

In 1936, the Wollners, a German family living in Town Creek, West Virginia, are contacted by the Third Reich to host a visiting scholar. In need of money, they accept Professor Ricard Wirth into their home, unaware of the Third Reich’s practices in the occult or Wirth’s real mission, which will keep the family bound for decades to come.

Now, more than 70 years later, Evan Marshall’s older brother Victor mysteriously disappears near Town Creek for two years and suddenly returns very much alive, having escaped his captors.

I rewatched the entire movie franchise and came out with subjects related to the plot of the Hellworld movie or eighth instalment. If you plan on watching the movie, do not keep reading this article, as it might ruin it for you.

This is all personal, and I respect everyone’s view of the movie and the Hellraiser franchise. Also, this is a subjective article and an opinion of the movie.

The Ups And Downs Of Found-Footage

My favorite horror movie genre is found footage. It’s like I can’t get enough of that style, and I know what many people think, it’s cheap, and it’s cheesy and bad. But, many underrated movies are gaining popularity in the genre. Here are some!

The Found Footage Debate

Many of us believe that the found footage style began with The Blair Witch Project in 1999. Then you have those who argue that Cannibal Holocaust from 1980 is the first of its kind. However, maybe some of us were wrong. The ups and downs of found-footage started in the new millennium for sure!

*** Before we go any further, let’s remind ourselves of a great tool to avoid trauma while watching horror movies: Does The Dog Die ***

While Cannibal Holocaust was part found footage, it wasn’t all found footage. However, maybe they were the first to exploit the marketing method of asking their actors to hide to reinforce the “true story” part. The director was also dragged to court and had to pay a fee for animal cruelty.
