A few months ago, Raven Digitalis contacted Gothic Bite Magazine regarding a review of his oracle deck. We have since had the opportunity to explore it, and the following are my impressions of this distinctly gothic offering.
At First Glance: Well-Executed Packaging
At first glance, the packaging is both well-designed and protective of the deck. The artwork sits somewhere between photography and digital manipulation, depicting a woman lying down in a pose reminiscent of Sleeping Beauty.
The box itself opens like a book, revealing both the deck and its accompanying booklet. Notably, the booklet is thicker than most included with oracle decks I own. It begins with an introduction to the creators: Raven Digitalis, an accomplished occultist, and John Santerineross, the photographer and photo manipulator, who is equally accomplished in his field.
The Uniqueness of the Deck
This deck is not for the faint of heart. If you are drawn to light, whimsical imagery, this may not be the deck for you. Likewise, those who prefer more reserved visuals may find it challenging. The imagery is bold, provocative, and deeply rooted in symbolism, particularly of the female form.

The aesthetic is both dark in tone and rich in atmosphere. The deck feels intentionally provocative, yet undeniably beautiful in a macabre sense. Each image appears carefully selected to reflect the meaning of the card it represents.
Examples include imagery such as a woman with her mouth sewn shut or a figure adorned with a shamanic crown, just a glimpse into the striking and unconventional visuals this deck offers.
The Representation of the Cards
The cards themselves are works of dark art, while the booklet stands out as particularly distinctive. Traditional witchcraft themes, such as brooms, herbs, stones, and crystals, are largely absent here. Instead, the deck takes a markedly different approach.
Themes of blood magick, communication with the dead, and the creation of dark art are woven throughout. The booklet provides in-depth explanations for each card, outlining their meanings and interpretations. However, those expecting a more traditional oracle experience may find this deck unconventional.

While it may appeal to newcomers, I would place this deck in a more advanced category. Despite the detailed guidance provided, the layered and symbolic imagery may present a more complex interpretive experience for those new to the practice.
The imagery invites deeper reflection and may be interpreted in ways that feel darker or more nuanced than initially expected. This deck is ultimately for those who can find beauty within darkness.
The Card That Flew Out
Loving Your Uniqueness was the card that stood out to me, quite literally, as it slipped from the deck while I was examining each card. It depicts a woman framed in an image, marked with a cross on her forehead, accompanied by a mirrored version of the same photograph.
The card’s meaning encourages the honoring of one’s skills, talents, and personal interests. It speaks to breaking free from social and generational conditioning, as well as confronting low self-image. The booklet provides both a detailed explanation and a section titled Activating the Insight, which offers further reflection.
This card resonated with me more than I expected. The themes it explores are ones I experience deeply, particularly the tension between embracing individuality and attempting to blend in. Its appearance felt both surprising and affirming, a quiet reminder that setting aside the mask is not only acceptable, but necessary.
What to Expect from A Gothic Witch’s Oracle Deck
Expect thoughtfully crafted packaging, haunting and unforgettable imagery, and a booklet that serves as a meaningful companion throughout one’s occult journey.
I would recommend this deck to more experienced practitioners, as well as those unafraid to explore darker themes. The term “Gothic” is not used lightly here; it defines the essence of the deck. It offers a unique experience and invites the reader into a deeper, more shadowed side of the occult.
