Review Of My Redemption By Christine Plays Viola

Christine Plays Viola recently reached out to Gothic Bite Magazine to review their work. The following is our full review of the tracks she shared with us.

This is my written review of the music artist Christine Plays Viola and the song “My Redemption” from their upcoming album, F.I.V.E. – Fear Increases Violent Emotions. To be released in 2026. The famous Cleopatra Records label produces them. They’re an Italian dark wave/post-punk band founded in the early 90s.

This is the song called My Redemption

The song starts with a constant, pleasant beat and continues with a piano-like chime. The singer is a male bass vocalist. There is a consistent electronic beat, and a band and a pianist are definitely included, along with various other instruments, all covered by electronic sounds and loops. It’s part of a series of emotions and raw energy throughout the song, more of a warning, really.

The theme of the song is time, and it’s very personal: fear, a constant warning of being stalked and unable to get away, and a constant message to run or be out of time, unable to escape one’s own fate. To find that you can’t change what will happen in the end of the fear itself.

Music

The song’s tone is foreboding, but with quick lyrics and definitely catchy beats, it could fit in a dance goth club or just for listening to oneself. That would be fun to dance to or relax for a chill night out. I like how consistent the lyrics are with the song, and the vocalist keeps a consistent tone, with a range beyond a bass register, including some yelling and long, sustained vocals.

My final thoughts

I listened to this song over and over. To get the feel and emotion of the song itself, I loved the message of fear and not escaping the inevitable in one’s life, and I even listened to the rest of the album. I found it enjoyable, but honestly, not my cup of tea in Goth music, because the male goth singer’s voice is the same droning style as many other goth bands in the death rock and trad goth scenes I’ve heard a dozen times.

But I’d listen to it again if I chose to. It’s not a long album at 54 minutes and 30 seconds, which is pretty good for an album. An actual short album to be that. This album is probably for deathrockers and traditional goth listeners, and it would be a great introduction for them. They’re not bad, just not my type of music. So definitely check out this song and the rest of the album if you enjoy this song. It’s a good listen.
