The Odaxelagnia Paraphilia Complex

Many kinks are now part of our daily lives as they make their way into our phones or while browsing. With the inclusion of so many types of romance novels, among other entertainment, one caught my attention, odaxelagnia. Let’s dive in!

The Quick Overall View Of Odaxelagnia

The simplest way to put it, odaxelagnia ranges itself in the paraphilia family. Odaxelagnia is, at its core, achieving orgasmic or sexual arousal through biting your partner or the other way around.

Some researchers consider odaxelagnia to be sadomasochism at a mild level. Often the bites resemble nibbling, which is quite similar to many mammals in the wild when performing sexual intercourse.

However, sometimes the bites can become more than nibbling, and the arousal is achieved only through light bruising or definite wounds.

But First, What Is Paraphilia?

We often see the word ‘paraphilia’ associated with obscure sexual activities. But what is it, and why is it next to stranger fantasies? Well, the word paraphilia itself comes from the Greek language, ‘para’ meaning ‘beside’ and ‘philia’ meaning ‘friendship’ or ‘love.’

In 1903, Friedrich Salomon Krauss coined the term. In 1920 the word became part of the psychological field, primarily through psychiatrist Wilhelm Stekel. We can conclude that paraphilia has roots in the last century and isn’t a new term of our era.

Paraphilia describes what most people would see as atypical social behaviour. It encompasses sexual interests that groups of people would claim as ‘strange’ or ‘unusual.’ It is a stigma given to people practising kinky sex. While many psychologists claim it is a non-pejorative term, let’s face it, if it puts you in a box, it is.

The Prude, The Paraphilias, And The Categories

When near the twentieth century, psychiatrists and psychologists discussed how they would know about types of paraphilias. In those times, the Church still had a hold on people’s love lives, including sexual intimacies.

“Paraphilia is a sexuoerotic embellishment of, or alternative to the official, ideological norm.”

John Money, Psychiatrist

If trying to shame me, psychiatrists won’t succeed by stating I’m a ‘freak.’ I have many paraphilias, and I am proud of them, odaxelagnia being one of my kinks. For people who categorise people by sexual preferences eagerly hopped on studying types of paraphilias rather quickly.

The psychology field wanted a descriptive system beyond Catholicism‘s rejection, such as sodomy and perversion. Before paraphilia became the official term for sexual fantasies, doctors used ‘sexual deviation.’

The list was short and encompassed what today wouldn’t be part of the paraphilia spectrum per se. It included non-human objects and humiliation. The two other involved crimes, such as paedophilia and rape.

Today, paraphilia goes well with BDSM, sadomasochism, and scenarios often involving fear, among other activities, such as odaxelagnia. The paraphilic stimulus fascinates many doctors to pursue studies to understand the possible correlation between trauma and paraphilias.

The Odaxelagnia Paraphilia Fantasy

Some people experience odaxelagnia first before morphing into sanguinophilia. It is not only arousal through biting, but also with blood through either a bite or helped with a needle or blade. Some people would join the two paraphilias into one and call it vampirism.

However, sanguinophilia, just like odaxelagnia, can be enjoyed separately. While both can be moderate, some push it to a severe level where it can become dangerous. With that said, anything can become problematic if it goes too far. It isn’t unique to sanguinophilia or odaxelagnia.

Biting can result in flesh tearing or intense bruising, if not internal bleeding, if bitten with too much intensity in more sensitive body areas. On the other hand, sanguinophilia is dangerous at any level, as it involves blood. Though often under control and performed with care, accidents can happen and result in blood loss.

This is why odaxelagnia and sanguinophilia are paraphilias of a darker nature. The fantasies can evolve into something dangerous. Though both paraphilias aren’t spread throughout several people as, let’s say, foot fetish, it is still potentially dangerous.

The Biting Fun Of Odaxelagnia

While many people believe odaxelagnia to be part of vampirism, which is true, as vampires bite to obtain blood, it is also its own thing. Odaxelagnia is the arousal through biting, but how is it used, and is it genetics or brain chemistry?

There is much to unpack here, but one fact at a time! Ofaxelagnia is a means by which some people achieve sexual arousal, and often for women, it is orgasmic on its own. Its usage can go from a partner holding the person who will reciprocate affection through a soft bite and wait to see or feel their reaction.

The biting is performed on softer flesh, such as the neck. This is one of the reasons why vampires became known for biting on the neck, as it is tender flesh and also covered with receptors dispersing pleasure.

Exposing Your Body For Biting

As vampires became romanticised, the neck became one of the favourite parts. With odaxelagnia, the neck, under the arms, chest, ears, lips, and sometimes cheeks are the places of choice.

However, with an intense display of odaxelagnia, shoulders, biceps, pectorals, and back are often targeted. Stronger muscles and bones can take more force and promote arousal.

Erotic

No anger is associated with odaxelagnia, as it is part of sexual activities. It is important not to mix the two forms of biting. It isn’t because one couple enjoys bruising while interacting sexually that anger is at the source.

Odaxelagnia isn’t genetically transmitted through DNA or anything. It isn’t a condition, but a form of pleasure. However, many psychologists and psychiatrists argue that because it falls in paraphilia, it could be a mental disorder or a result of childhood trauma or exposure to a form of display of the activity.

The Sexist Side Of American Psychiatry

Most paraphilic studies come from testing done on male patients. Most results exclude female views as if women have no sexual interests. How can women not have sexual interests when the most sold genres in novels are romance, erotica, and BDSM? But America does love their women virgin and clean, so let’s jump into those fairly conducted studies!

Before 1981, the American psychiatry publication would consider paraphilias as part of the psychopathic personality disorder with pathologic sexuality. It perceived paraphilic behaviour, including odaxelagnia, as a personality disorder and possible sociopathic tendencies.

Erotic

Any form of fetish was part of the pathological paraphilia category of psychiatry. There were no rules or format of diagnosis, as it was at the doctor’s discretion. That proceeding caused many paraphilias, including odaxelagnia, to be alongside rape, sexual assault, and paedophilia. Sadly, the misunderstanding and close-minded people of the time refused to acknowledge that sexuality is a discovery of oneself and not for one’s repetitive habit alone.

In the later years of American Psychiatry, the term sexual deviation was in usage to move paraphilia from a psychotic disorder to a mental disorder. Sexual preferences were still a problem, and any form of violence could lead to a diagnosis of mental disorders. Words continued to be tossed around, and odaxelagnia remained alongside other crimes.

Enjoying Sex And Biting Is Beautiful And Not A Mental Disorder

Because many paraphilias are dark in nature sexual predators share many of those sexual behaviours. This results in paraphilia listings in criminal behaviours resulting in mental disorders. For that reason, paraphilic stimulus finds itself on the ‘bad’ side of the sexual spectrum for false reasonings.

Intolerances, judgmental mindsets, and slow evolution in sexuality result in wrong classifications. Paraphilias aren’t evil in nature, but so many people are uncomfortable with sexual topics that anything related must be bad. The fact that studies are with male patients alone also negatively impacts research. Means of sexual arousal aren’t harmful or traumatic. They only have the potential to be with specific individuals.

Erotic

Odaxelagnia is the arousal of biting a partner or being bitten by them, not eaten or dismembered. Can it turn into eating or dismemberment? Of course, we’re not talking about paraphilia at this point, but criminal behaviour achieved through odaxelagnia. One isn’t exclusive to the other.

Nibbling a partner is a display of affection and love and is widely shared in the animal kingdom we belong to. Odaxelagnia is the extension of that affectionate display, and although it can sometimes bruise, it is only a reminder of the excellent time one had with their partner. Exploring paraphilias isn’t harmful. The word became negative because close-minded people viewed sexual intercourse as a repetitive habit, not a self-discovery of pleasure.

Be proud of your sexuality and explore it to its fullest as long as it is consensual, out of love, and performed safely.
